I have made Nestle's chocolate chip cookies a thousand times ... but today, they turned out like this. Flat, and crusty around the edges. Does anyone know why?? I can't think of a thing that was different. I didn't leave any ingredients out, the oven was at the right temperature. So what's the deal man? And so sorry to Caleb and Andrew ... my surprise treat wasn't quite what I'd had planned ... I hope it doesn't affect the outcome of the game!

I've had that happen before. I usually make a test cookie to see if I need to alter the batch of dough before making the rest now. One of my first thoughts is that most baking recipes (especially older ones) are written for medium eggs. I usually buy large and then you need to add additional flour to compensate. You might have XL eggs. That would explain the flatness. The other thing could be baking soda has an exp. date. I just learned this doing a science experiment with the kids. And a 3rd thing...did you stick the 2nd, 3rd, etc batches on a hot cookie sheet. Sometimes that doesn't work for me. I'm sure they still taste great...especially crumbled with some ice cream.
Looks like either too much butter/margarine or the leavening (soda/baking powder) was past its prime. They probably still tasted good though!
Love, Mom Dub
looks like the butter may have been too soft
