My Journey through Breast Cancer

On October 11, 2013, I was diagnosed with Stage II Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) ... or as we like to call it, extreme measures for a nap (EMFN). For a while, this blog will be my cancer journal. Enter at your own risk.

Prairie Creek

Growing up our family often camped up in Northern California in the Redwoods. To this day its still one of my favorite spots in the world to be. There's something about the Redwoods that is calming, relaxing, quiet and peaceful. The ferns and fallen bark on the forest floor leave a cushion beneath your feet while the tall trees only allow occasional beams of sunlight to reach the ground beneath them. Its a beautiful place.

In a couple weeks our family is taking a week and a half off from Southern California and going back! For the first time Caleb and Josephine will be with me (my parents, brothers and their families are joining us as well!). One of the spots we will be visiting is Fern Canyon, a beautiful canyon with ferns growing up and down the walls and a creek running through it. If you've seen Jurassic Park: The Lost World, the scene where the one guy gets eaten by the little dinosaurs was filmed here. Also, nearby at Humboldt Redwoods is where scenes from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (where Princess Leia is chased by a couple of storm troopers) were filmed.

I highly recommend camping in the Redwoods if you've never done it. Its truly a magical place.
